Nicholas Green Distinguished Student Award
Join National Association for the Gifted and California Association for the Gifted As We Continue to Offer a $500 Award to a California Student

Today, more than ever, there are 50 very good reasons to support the NAGC Nicholas Green Distinguished Student Award.

Here’s one: Stephie Wilkie, California's 2008 Nicholas Green Distinguished Student Award recipient, received perfect scores on the STAR exam. Now in fifth grade, she continues to perform at the top of her class. Her love for learning stands out prominently across all academic areas, plus her creativity in writing and art stood out immediately. It was no surprise when she. In fourth grade she won the school-wide spelling bee. Stephanie enjoys the arts and has won many awards for her poetry and artwork. A mural designed by her covers a wall at our district office. Poetry is another area in which she excels and has received awards. This outstanding young person also shines in school leadership activities. She has represented Browns Valley Elementary School in the regional “Odyssey of the Mind” and district “Novel Knowledge” competitions for the last two years. In addition, she is active in Girl Scouts and plays on a soccer team.

The Nicholas Green Foundation was established by Maggie and Reg Green to honor the memory of their seven-yeat-old son, Nicholas, who was killed by a drive-by shooting while visiting in Italy in 1994. The Greens established the Distinguished Student Award to honor students of exceptional ability and talents who are now about the age of their son when he died.  Unfortunately funds provided by the Green family have long been depleted.  To continue this program in California, CAG relies upon contributions to support the $500 savings bond that each Distinguished student receives when she or he is selected.  We hope that you will step up to the challenge with a contribution.
The NAGC Nicholas Green Distinguished Student Award has honored and supported more than 250 gifted children in grades 3 to 6, and recognizes outstanding achievement in academics, leadership, and the arts. The award inspires children to achieve their fullest potential, highlights high-ability students, and draws attention to the education needs of our nation’s gifted and talented students. It’s good for kids and it’s good for NAGC & CAG.

Unfortunately, funding has nearly run out for the Nicholas Green Award and NAGC needs your support to continue recognizing distinguished students across the country.

Here’s how to help secure the future of the award:
A total contribution of $250 from your state to the NAGC Nicholas Green Distinguished Student Award Fund will help to ensure that the award will continue beyond the 2008-2009 school year. You can donate any amount, but be sure to mark on the form that you are donating from California for our state's award. Each individual who contributes $250 or more will receive a complimentary 1-year membership to NAGC.
